What can I expect when going to my appointment?

  • Dr. Neu-Ner will discuss your eye condition, the symptoms you are experiencing and any other eye related issues you may have. He will then conduct a number of eye tests such as the ones listed below. Expect some or all of them to be performed:
    • Visual acuity test – is used to determine the smallest letters you can read on a standardized chart held 20 feet away.
    • Visual field test – measures how sensitive your vision is in different parts of the visual field. It also measures how far the eye sees in any direction without moving.
    • Corneal Topography – Corneal topography is a special photography technique that maps the surface of the clear, front window of the eye (the cornea). With a topography scan, Dr Neu-Ner can find distortions in the curvature of the cornea, which is normally smooth. It also helps Dr Neu-Ner monitor eye disease and plan for surgery.
    • Fundus Photograph – is the process of taking serial photographs of the interior of your eye through the pupil.
    • OCT (Ocular coherence tomography) -Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test. OCT uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina. With OCT, your ophthalmologist can see each of the retina’s distinctive layers

If Dr. Neu-Ner suspects that your eye condition is caused by a neurological issue, he will conduct a neurological ophthalmological assessment. This often allows him to make a precise diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan even within the scope of your first visit. Further test such as blood tests, ultrasounds, CT or MRI scans may be required if necessary.
